It was another high scoring affair for Edwardsburg on Friday night. The Eddies traveled to South Haven to take on the Rams at Ratcliffe Field. Friday night the temperatures were in the high 80’s, which made many area teams delay the start of their games, however, the Eddies and Rams kicked off at 7pm as scheduled.
It wasn’t long ago that the Rams were a powerhouse program going deep into the playoffs several years in a row. The team as of late has lacked size and numbers to counter the bigger schools they face in the Wolverine Conference, and that was true against Edwardsburg as the Eddies rolled over the Rams with a final score of 76-6.
Throughout the course of the game the rushing attack of Edwardsburg was difficult for the Rams to stop. The Eddies had over 530 yards rushing compared to South Haven’s -4 yards. Edwardsburg was led by Kyle Shrider with 92 yards rushing and 1 touchdown. Caden Goggins had five carries for 73 yards, including a 55 yard rushing TD. Isaiah Mitchell ran for 67 yards, and Nick Bradley chipped in 61 yards. In the passing game Matt Hepler was 2 for 2 for 51 yards and a TD. Bradley brought in the touchdown pass and took it in from 43 yards away.
Defensively, Edwardsburg was led by Devin Pulling with 5 tackles. Levi Burlingham, Noah Carrico, Garrett Orpurt, and Chase Sager each had 4 tackles. Carrico had the only sack on the night for the Eddies defense. Mac Gaideski and Cullen McIntee each recorded an interception.
This Friday the 5-0 Eddies will welcome in the 4-1 Plainwell Trojans for homecoming. Plainwell squared off against Dowagiac last Friday night and left no doubt as to who the better team was. They took care of the Chieftains by a final score of 53-8.
