In the closing seconds of last year’s epic finish, the Eddies were trailing by one after Niles hit a three pointer to take the lead. Dante Razzano went coast to coast and made a layup as time expired to give the Eddies the win. The Niles and Edwardsburg rivalry game picked up where it left off last year on Monday night.
Edwardsburg got behind early as Niles’s Gavin Rasler got hot from the field. Given his height, agility, and post moves he was a difficult matchup for the Eddies. The Eddies countered with Adam Kozinski in the first quarter. Kozinski was able to make several shots from deep and helped the Eddies escape the first quarter with 11-8 lead over the Vikes.
Both teams were on fire from the field in the second quarter. Edwardsburg posted 18 points while Niles scored 21. The Eddies shot 53 percent from the field in the quarter while Niles went 83 percent. The Eddies were led by Chase Tarwacki who dumped in 5 points, while Donavan Jennings put in 8 points for Niles. The game was tied at 29 a piece at halftime.
The second half provided many lead changes and scoring outbursts from both teams. The Eddies took the lead for the final time late in the fourth quarter, and were able to hold off a late surge from the Vikings when Dante Razzano drained four free throws on two straight possessions. His free throws secured the 62-58 win for Edwardsburg.
Gavin Rasler led the Vikings in scoring with 21 points, while the Eddies countered with 19 points from Razzano, and 15 from Kozinski. The win moves Edwardsburg to 8-9 on the season while the Vikings drop to 4-12 overall.
Edwardsburg’s next game will be at Sturgis on February 26th.
