The Eddies welcomed in the Dowagiac Chieftains on Friday night for their Coming Home event. It was a fun filled day for all as the chili cook-off was a huge success and the other Eddies basketball programs were 2-0 on the night. The boys’ varsity squad looked to make it a perfect night, but in the end couldn’t hang with the Chieftains.
Dowagiac got off to a fast start in the first quarter, but the Eddies went on a late run to end the quarter down 14-10, with hopes of continuing their late surge into the second quarter. Those hopes were dashed as Keonte Blackamore dumped in eight points on 4/6 shooting, while Brandon Winchester-Jones contributed 6 of his own. The Chieftains outscored the Eddies 16-8 in the second quarter to take a 30-18 lead into halftime.
The third quarter saw more of the same as Blackamore kept it rolling offensively with five more points, while several others chipped in. Edwardsburg got some offensive production from Shane Streb who contributed four of his nine points in the third quarter.
The fourth quarter was the most productive for the Eddies who finally found some offense. Edwardsburg dropped in 18 points from six different players. The Eddies still fell short this night by a final score of 61-43.
Adam Kozinski led the Eddies with twelve points, Dante Razzano had eleven of his own, and Streb had nine on the night.
Shooting kept the threat of an Edwardsburg run at bay as the Eddies shot only 32% on the night. The athleticism and length of the Chieftains hurt the Eddies on the boards, and provided many second chance points for Dowagiac.
Edwardsburg drops to 1-5 in the conference and 5-7 overall on the season. Their next contest is at Plainwell on Tuesday night.
